Brief History

This is Rockleigh, New Jersey—population approximately 500. Here you may stroll colonial roads where Revolutionary troops once marched. Rockleigh’s landmarks lie within a 246.45 acre historic district, and lie adjacent to the historic district of Palisades, New York. We are traditionally connected to this area by Rockleigh Road. Once part of the Old Rockland Neighborhood, Rockleigh’s colonial history became the history of New York until 1769 when the boundary line with New Jersey was settled after a long and bitter dispute. Board of Health Notice

If a Rockleigh resident acquires a dog 6 months of age or older (pursuant to section 5-3.4 of the Borough Code) it is mandatory to obtain a dog license. Permit forms for annual dog licenses are available for download from this website under Forms & Permits, or in the Office of the Borough Clerk.

Inspection Reports
All inspection reports are subject to "Open Public Records Act (OPRA)" at Rockleigh. The inspection report will be available for review at the following link:
http://datamine2.state.nj.us/dep/DEP_OPRA/

Scroll to the blue header titled "Search for Regulated Sites by ID Number." The ID number is 213713 and the program is Water Quality. The inspection report will be available in about a month.


Garbage/Recycling

As a reminder, garbage is picked up on MONDAYS and THURSDAYS of every week. Recycling materials are picked up on the FIRST and THIRD THURSDAY of each month. There is no recycling pick-up during the fifth week of any month.


Leaf Removal

As a reminder, the Borough of Rockleigh does not provide leaf pick-up. It is the responsibility of each homeowner/landscaper to see that the leaves are removed or composted. If leaves are being removed by your landscaper they must be picked up and removed prior to your landscaper leaving the property. In addition, landscapers’ trailers are not to be left on any Borough Street unattended or unattached. Homeowners/landscapers are not to blow leaves onto streets, public property or that of your neighbors. (As per Borough Ordinance 07-07). Thank you for your cooperation.
